In collaboration with the Cinémathèque de la Ville de Luxembourg, European Film Academy organises in 56 cities in 35 countries in Europe and beyond, the Young Audience Film Day on 5th May 2019.

3 films will be shown during the day

5th May at 11am: Los Bando (NO, SE, 2018) by Christian Lo (94’ – Norwegian OV with French & German subt.)  a Swedish-Norwegian co-production

Grim and Axel, two best friends, have always dreamt of attending the Norwegian Championship of Rock in Tromsø with their band “Los Bando Immortale”. Unfortunately, Axel’s singing voice isn’t very good, so when they get accepted to the championship they have to find a solution – quickly. But after holding auditions, only Thilda, a tough as a nail nine-year-old girl who plays the cello turns up. After recruiting local rally-talent Martin as their driver, the charming bunch of misfits embark on a crazy journey across Norway. With the police and their parents chasing them, this will be a race against the clock to get to Tromsø in time for the event of their lifetime.

5th May at 2 pm:  Old Boys (UK, SE, 2018) by Toby MacDonald (95’ – English OV with French & German subt.) a British-Swedish co-production

Survival of the fittest’ is the philosophy at all boys boarding school Caldermount. If you’re not a champion on the sports field, you’re a nobody. No one knows this better than bookworm Amberson, who’s been at the bottom of the school’s social ladder since he can remember. When the new French teacher’s fiery daughter Agnes arrives, Amberson’s life is turned upside down. He suddenly finds himself playing matchmaker for Winchester, the school’s handsome but spectacularly dim school-hero in dire need of romantic assistance. Winchester definitely has the looks to win over Agnes but it’s Amberson who has the wits. But as Amberson himself falls for Agnes, will he have the courage to reveal himself to her and stand up for whom he really is?

5th May at 4 pm: Fight Girl (Vechtmeisje) (NL, BE, 2018) by Johan Timmers (84’ – Dutch OV with German & French subt.)  a Dutch-Belgian co-production

As her parents are going through an acrimonious divorce, headstrong and highly volatile twelve-year-old Bo moves to an Amsterdam suburb with her mother and brother. Once there, her neighbour, Joy, introduces her to the local kickboxing club. She demonstrates natural talent and is very soon selected to take part in the Dutch championships, but her parents’ divorce is distracting Bo and threatens to ruin the chances in the contest. Bo has to learn restraint and accept that she can’t control everything.

Where?  Cinémathèque de la Ville de Luxembourg

The screenings are free and open to the publicAdditional information on website.

Looking for a jury

TheYoung Audience Film Day is also looking for a Luxembourgish jury, made up of 12-to-14-year-old film fans, who – over the course of the day – are going to watch the three films selected by the European Film Academy. In a truly European vote, the jury will then decide on the best European youth film of the year, together with the juries in the other participating countries.

The winner will be awarded the European Film Academy Young Audience Award in Erfurt, Germany.

Interested children or their parents can sign up or ask for more information via our e-mail address register@luxfilmfest.lu

A charity walk aimed at destigmatising suicide and mentalheal issues

The first Darkness Into Light walk took place in Dublin in 2009, when a bereaved family, who had lost their son to suicide, walked with a group of 400 people in the very early morning from the darkness of night into the dawn, to symbolise the hope and healing that can come with the light of a new day and to raise awareness of suicide. Since then the event has developed into a global movement, being held in over 150 venues in Ireland and around the world, bringing together more than 200,000 people across five continents to help destigmatise suicide and allow people to talk more openly about mental health issues.

This year will mark the first edition of Darkness Into Light in Luxembourg.

By signing up to walk or run you will be helping to raise funds for three very worthwhile organisations: the Service Information et Prévention of La Ligue, which runs the Prévention Suicide website, and SOS Détresse, an anonymous and confidential helpline, — both in Luxembourg — and Pieta House in Ireland, the organiser of this international event.

Darkness Into Light Luxembourg 2019 has the support and patronage of European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Vytenis Andriukaitis, as well as Irish Ambassador to Luxembourg, Peadar Carpenter, thus making it a truly European event.

The 5 km walk, starting at 5:00 in the morning on 11 May 2019, will depart from and finish at the Altrimenti Cultural Centre at 5 avenue Marie-Thérèse, in Luxembourg Ville.

Registration for Darkness Into Light Luxembourg is open: https://www.darknessintolight.ie/event/luxembourg

The Detsky KinoMay Children’s Charitable Foundation is a public organization, promoting since 2009 the best Russian films for children and youth.

Film events are accompanied by a very diverse cultural and educational program, including creative contests, meetings of cinematographers with spectators and workshops held as its part.

This year the festival will be held in Luxembourg for the fourth time and will receive talented «star volunteers» as Honored Worker of the Arts of the City of Moscow Alexander Koltsov, actresses
Marina Kudelinskaya and Irina Lindt, director Anna Bagmet, children’s writer Anna Ignatova, director, scriptwriter and singer-songwriter Alexey Levshin.

Just before the film forum, there has been a traditional writing contest for Russianspeaking children residing in Luxembourg. This year the topic of essays is «The Magic World of Theater». The contest winners will be awarded with memorable prizes and gifts at the Embassy of Russia in Luxembourg on June 14.

On June 15, a rich program of cultural activities and events will be provided at the Kalinka Russian School, with film screenings and workshops — acting, vocal, literary, as well as workshops on Russian toy-making and on clay modeling.

On June 16, the KinoMay delegation will visit German Trier, where the creative team will be received by two Russian cultural clubs and the Matryoshka Russian School. Spectators will watch feature films «Eins, zwei, drei…» and «Heavenly Camel», and then will discuss them and ask questions to the star guests.

About Russian school of complementary education Kalinka

The Russian school of complementary education Kalinka was opened in 2010 at the initiative of The Russian Club of Luxembourg, a nonprofit association.

Kalinka’s aim is to promote Russian language and culture, maintain interest in learning Russian, enhance the status of Russian as a foreign language in Luxembourg, improve the techniques and methods of teaching the Russian language. All our activities are realized with the financial support of our main sponsor — East-West United Bank.

The School counts 213 students aged 3 to 14 years. Lessons are given exclusively in the Russian language using the methods designed specifically for Russian schools abroad. Comprising literacy, reading and writing, the program also helps students get acquainted with music and dramatic art, while some elder classes introduce social studies. Students have the opportunity to participate in a number of optional school clubs and activities, such as drawing, chess, amusing mathematics or dance club, as well as a choir. With such variety, there is something to fit nearly every interest.
