Iceland has a long history with Luxembourg.
Cargolux was established 1970 together with Luxair, the Sales Shipping Group and Loftleidir, an Icelandic flight company, known for its flights Luxembourg-Iceland-New York from 1955 onwards.
Cargolux first CEO was the Icelander Einar Olafsson and most Icelandic ex-pads had in one or another way to do with one of the two airlines, Cargolux or Loftleidir.
The second wave of immigrants came with the banking system shortly before millennium until the crisis hit in 2009.

Today there are 425 Icelandic households in Luxembourg (Statec 2018).
Some of the Icelanders are of second or third generation. The Icelanders work today in various domains in Luxembourg. Some have implemented new business models in the country, opening up restaurants or fitness rooms.
Recurrent events for iceland community in Luxembourg
- Icelanders celebrate their National Day in Luxembourg on June 17th every year, in memory of the proclamation of the Republic of Iceland in 1944.
- They also celebrate their ancient Viking midwinter festival ´þorrablót´ which honours the old Viking times.
- Other important celebrations are Easter and Christmas.
